Waynesville, Scott Leroy Vreeland, age 58, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and children present on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
Born on December 18, 1962 in Grass Lake, Michigan, Scott made his way through Florida and Colorado to finally spend the last 18 years of his life in the mountains of Western North Carolina where he worked in restaurant management. Scott enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, snow skiing, building stunt kites, and riding his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Scott was predeceased by his father, John Williams, of Napoleon, Michigan.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kelly Vreeland; daughter, Kayla, and son, Matthew, both of Haywood County; mother, Barbara Williams of Napoleon, MI; two brothers, Brent (Brenda) Vreeland of Jackson, MI, and Albert Williams of Utah; three sisters, Peggy Adams of Napoleon, MI, Audrey Joseph and Jan Pate, both of Winter Garden, FL; ten nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to send its sincere gratitude to Dr. Michael Messino and the providers of the Messino Cancer Center; Dr. Jeanette Larson; and the providers at Four Seasons Hospice for their excellent care over the course of Scott’s disease.
A Remembrance Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Wells Event Center in Waynesville. Due to COVID-19, all protocols and mandates are requested to be followed, including mask and social distancing. A Celebration of Life event will be held in Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710.
The care of Scott has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
