Selma Howell

Selma Elizabeth Hooper Howell, age 82, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009. A native of Jackson County, she lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Frizzell Hooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Perry Howell, who died July 16, 2005; two brothers, Ellis and Candler Hooper; and four sisters, Ann O'neil, Sue O'neil, Hazel Mackey, and Effie Jones. Selma was a member of East Fork Baptist Church and she retired from American Enka Corporation in 1990. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Howell and his wife, Sharon, of Killen, AL and Jeff Howell of Clyde; two daughters, Carolyn Conard and her husband, Ronnie Dale, of Rutledge, TN, and Gail Henson and her husband, David, of Canton; one sister, Betty Bridges of Clyde; four grandsons, Kelly Henson, David and Todd Howell, and Jason Reynolds; one granddaughter, Jenni Reynolds; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan and Breydon Reynolds, and Sarah, Luke, and Logan Howell. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at East Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Cullen and Reverend Johnny Foster officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Randy Pope, Floyd O'neil, Jason Reynolds, Jerry Rhinehart, Kelly Henson and Ronnie Dale Conard. At other times, the family will be at her residence, 14 Sharp Mountain Road in Cruso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cruso First Responders, 13264 Cruso Road, Canton, NC 28716.
