Senior Cogdill

Waynesville-Senior Trooper Anthony Greg Cogdill, age 32, with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and resident of 242 Wessill Way, died Friday, May 30, 2003 in the line of duty.

Anthony was a native of Haywood County and was the son of Brenda Ledford East and her husband, Louis of Waynesville and Stan B. Cogdill and his wife Lena of Waynesville.

He graduated from Tuscola High School in 1989 and was a 1993 graduate of Western Carolina University with a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1993 he became a Deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department where he served until joining the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He has served with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for the past six years. He was a member of Lake Junaluska First Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

In addition to parents, he is survived by his wife, Heidi Holloway Cogdill of Candler; his son, Cody Alexander Cogdill; maternal grandmother, Jennie Ledford of Waynesville; paternal grandmother, Dot Cogdill of Waynesville; one brother, Patrick Nathan Cogdill and his wife, Kellee of Boiling Springs; one half sister, Stephanie Cogdill of Asheville; two step-brothers, Andy East and his wife Amber of Waynesville and Ricky East of Long Island, New York.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Stuart Auditorium at the United Methodist Assembly at Lake Junaluska. The Reverend Douglas Ledford will officiate. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Full Honors provided by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. The members of the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
