Waynesville, Sharon Elizabeth Morgan, age 57, of E. Marshall Street, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Mission Hospital following a brief illness. A native and resident of Haywood County most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Jon Ray Morgan and Bonnie Mann Thompson and was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Ottie and Artie Mann. She was a 1973 graduate of Pisgah High School and received a BS Degree in Early Education from Western Carolina University. Sharon was a former employee of Bogart's Restaurant for more than thirteen years. A licensed real estate agent since 1992, she was currently employed at Beverly Hanks and Associates Realtors and was a top selling agent in Western North Carolina in 2005 and also received the "2011 Contributing to Excellence Award." This annual award is given to the broker associate who exhibits the highest degree of professionalism and dependability while working with staff, management, consumers, agents with the organization and real estate agents within the community. The recipient is determined by a vote of Beverly-Hanks Broker Associates. Sharon's energy, drive and organizational skills allowed her to be a top real estate agent whose real estate clients became life-long raving fans. Haywood County Board of Realtors activities included: serving as a Director, Chairperson of Professional Standards Committee, Chairperson of Community Service Committee, Vice President 2001 and President in 2002. Additionally, she was Haywood County Realtor of the Year in 2002. She was also active with the North Carolina Association of Realtors and served as Director of the Cultural Diversity & Equal Opportunity Committee and the Realtors Safety Council. Sharon was also Woman of the Year - American Business Women's Association, Volunteer of the Year - The Arc of Haywood County, where she also served as a Director for The Arc and was recognized for outstanding service as Spirit Award winner in 2003. Sharon was also recognized in "2003 Women of Haywood County." Her community service activities included: KARE- coat and sweater drive, blanket drive for the homeless, Red Cross blood drive, food drive for Haywood Christian Ministries, United Way Day of Caring and fundraising, book drive for children's wing of Haywood Regional Medical Center, Waynesville Community play ground project, Rotary/Realtor Habitat for Humanity houses in Canton and Waynesville, and Haywood Rotary Club. She is survived by her companion, Susie Downs; stepmother, Louise Gudger Morgan, of Clyde; a half sister, Carolyn Bradley and her husband, Rusty, of Fayetteville; two aunts, Lois Hardin of Waynesville and Betty Conway of Asheville; one uncle, Charlie Morgan, of Bermuda Run, North Carolina; her niece, Morgan Bradley, of Fayetteville; and her extended family, Ronnie and Evelyn Wilson of Waynesville. A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating.
