Canton – Shellie Hogue Thompson, 48, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 in Charlotte.
Shellie lived in the Bethel Community but was a native of Buncombe County. She was a daughter of Susan and Terry Rector and the late Stan Hogue, who died in 1988. Shellie worked for 23 years as a Deputy Register of Deeds for Buncombe County and the love of her life was her family.
Shellie was well known for her infectious giggle and quick wit. She was known as the heart and soul of the office, and many referred to her as the office mom. She loved her family, especially her son, nieces and nephews, who gravitated to her. Shellie always put others before herself and had an uncanny ability to notice when someone needed help.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 21 years, Anthony Thompson; one son, Douglas Dakota Thompson of Canton; two sisters, Sherri Banks (Stephen) and Jessica Rector, all of Candler; one brother, Jeremy Rector (Jennifer) of Asheville; two nieces, Kindyll and Skylar; two nephews, Christopher and Sawyer; and many close friends.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Morning Star Community Cemetery with the Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SARGE’S Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to Morning Star Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 1746, Canton, NC 28716.
