Sherman Payne

Canton- Sherman David Payne - age 66 died Monday, August 22, 2005. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Kelly and Mary Mull Payne. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Baker, Louise Payne and Femmie Burnette and five brothers, Francis, Lattie, Walter, Junior and Howard Payne. He worked very hard and enjoyed logging for many years and he also loved NASCAR racing. He is survived by his former wife of 21 years, Betty Payne, the mother of his children who remained a close friend until his death; five sons, David Lee Payne and his wife Djuana, Howard Keith Payne and Anthony Devin Payne all of Canton, Lloyd Trull and his wife Phylis of Canton and Gary Trull and his wife Julie of Pickens, SC; two daughters, Barbara Fisher of Waynesville and Angie Brown and her husband Kevin of Clyde; one sister, Bonnie Payne of Candler; three grandchildren, Haven, Kelly and Dakota Payne; eight step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 65 Star Ridge Road in Canton.
