"Loving Mother to Many" Canton – Shirley Ann Surrett Fisher, formerly of the Morning Star Community, age 69, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013 at The Homestead. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman Walker and Helen Ruth Green Surrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman "Dump" Fisher, who died in 1999 and a brother, Tom Surrett, who died in 2008. Shirley was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Being a devoted Christian, she loved Jesus and praised Him until He called her home. Shirley's ministry was prayer and caring for others. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Trull and her husband, Larry, of Canton; two sons, Mike Fisher and Pola Laughlin of Canton, and Mark Fisher and his wife, Jackie, of Hartly, Delaware; two brothers, Joyce Surrett of Candler, and Sherman Surrett of Canton; and six grandsons, James Coleman Fisher and his wife, Laura, John Coleman Fisher, Jacob Mark Fisher, Isaac Steven Fisher, Micah Blaine Fisher, and Lucas Thomas Trull; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Anna. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike, Mark, Micah and Cole Fisher, Lucas Trull, Matthew Halbrook, and Kile Davis. Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
