Waynesville-Shirley Connatser Stokes, age 69, of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of Waynesville, died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at her residence.
Born in Waynesville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Ernest and Lura Mae Noland Connatser. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Christ Church in Savannah, Georgia and was a self-employed fine arts appraiser. She did her graduate work at the University of Florida. In addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Woods Stokes, Sr. who died in 1994, and by a sister, Margaret Jean Connatser Haynes.
She is survived by her daughter, Lela Shirley Stokes-Dickens and her husband, David of Statesboro, Georgia; her son, William T. ''Will'' Stokes and his wife, Tricia L. of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, Margaret Caroline Dickens, William David Stokes Dickens and Nolan Thomas Dickens; two nieces, Anna Maria Williams and Lura Olivia Jacobs; one nephew, David Arthur Haynes; and many treasured friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville. The Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the services at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003 at Christ Church in Savannah, Georgia. The Reverend Marcus B. Robertson and The Reverend Steven A. Evans will officiate.
