Waynesville, Shirley Cochran Trantham, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7, 2014 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Lula Belle Morgan Cochran and was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Trantham. In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed entertaining her family and cooking, especially Sunday dinners. She was an active member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Loye Trantham, and her children, Joey (Lucy) Trantham, Sandra (Larry) Smith and David (Dawn) Trantham, all of Waynesville. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Daniel and Will Trantham, Tracey Holland, Trent Smathers, Ethan Smith and Jenny Trull and seven great grandchildren, Coy Austin, Ellie Stanberry, Silas and Wesley Trantham, Jake Trull and Ashley and Sarah Holland. She is also survived by three brothers, Bill (Pat) Cochran, Jim (Joyce) Cochran and Bud (Janice) Cochran, all of Waynesville; many nieces and nephews who thought of her as Mamaw Loye as well as lots of cousins and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Daniel Trantham (grandson) and Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with Ethan Smith, Will Trantham, Trent Smathers, Coy Austin, Jared Trull and Jeremy Holland serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church, 549 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Crabtree Baptist Church, 480 Crabtree Church Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
