Signe Unhammer

Clyde, Signe Marie Sorensen Unhammer, age 87, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native of New York City, she was raised in Norway and was a former resident of Westchester County, New York. She had resided in Haywood County since 2005. She was the daughter of the late Sakaris and Helga Hansen Sorensen and was preceded in death by her husband, Olaf Unhammer, who died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Solveig and two brothers, Walter and Hilmar. She loved to travel back to Norway to visit family and also enjoyed reading. Signe was a very spiritual, born again Christian and read both English and Norwegian versions of the Bible. She is survived by a daughter, Lesley Shanken and her husband, Scott, of Clyde; one son, Gary Unhammer of Long Island, New York; a sister, Anny Tveit, of Norway; one brother, Aksel Vinnem of Brooklyn, New York; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Shanken of Clyde.
