Sloan Stewart

Sloan Eddleman Stewart, age 79, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Gaston County, he was a son of the late Ray and Esther Glover Stewart and was a member of Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church. Sloan was a United States Air Force and Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Edith Johnson Stewart; four sons, Danny, Rodney, Jerry, and Barry Stewart; one step-son, Johnathan Hansen; five daughters, Mary Ruth Johns, Melanie Stewart, Brenda Dejong, Robin April Stone, and Theresa Nash; two step-daughters, Barbara Derrick and Patricia Murray; three sisters, Janice Anderson, Rose Mary Hufstedlar and Evelyn Brenner; one brother, Ray Stewart, Jr.; 25 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Reverend Jim Moretiz and Reverend Larry Murray officiating. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements.
