"Smiley" Burnette

"Devoted Husband & Dad" Clyde – Howard Jefferson "Smiley" Burnette, age 78, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Fred Newton and Helen Crawford Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Mae Stamey Burnette, who died on November 30, 2015; two brothers; and eight sisters. Smiley enjoyed playing his banjo and listening to Blue Grass music. He loved antique cars and enjoyed putting model cars together. Smiley loved Trinity Baptist Church of which he was a very faithful member. He is survived by one daughter, Wilma Jean "Jeannie" Chapman and her husband, Billy, of Clyde; and one sister, Betty Burnette Revis of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Davis Plemmons and Reverend Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
