Maggie Valley, Stanley Swartz Applebaum, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at his residence. A native of Manhattan, New York, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Yetta Schlomowitz Appelbaum. For 40 years, he was an independent mover and also worked for Crete Van Lines as a driver. Stanley had a passion for flying model airplanes and was a member of the Clyde Flying Club. He was also a wonderful carpenter and builder. Stanley had a tremendous love for his cats, Munchcan, Saki, Spunky, Muffin, Sphinx, Morris and Cleo. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shirley Appelbaum; two daughters, Lisa Appelbaum of Stewart, Florida and Carrie Winfield and her husband, Scott, of Fort Lauderdale; one son, Michael Appelbaum; four stepdaughters, Debra Epard of Silver Springs, Maryland, Susan Duncan of Clyde, Teresa Kendall of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and Sandra Epard of Asheville; two sisters, Elaine Rosenberg and her husband, Sid, and Tina Silver and her husband, David; twelve grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Memorials may be made to SARGEs Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
