Stella Cathey

"In Loving Memory" Flat Rock and Hendersonville – Stella Cathey, age 93, of Flat Rock and Hendersonville passed away on Sunday April 17, 2016 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born on October 25, 1922. Stella was the daughter of the late Theodore Stravakis and Helen Nestoras Stravakis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Frank Cathey of Flat Rock and Clyde, NC, a sister, Gram Damiano of Wayne, NJ and a brother, Nestor Stravakis of Long Island, NY. She grew up in New York, NY and graduated from George Washington High School and the Merchant Bankers Business School. Throughout the 1940's and 1950's, she worked for several companies in Manhattan including the engineering firm of Brown & Blauvelt and Affiliated Program Service, Inc. Although she was born and raised in Manhattan, after her marriage to Frank in 1955 she grew to love the mountains of Carolina as much as the city life of NY. She enjoyed spending time at her and her husband's retirement home in Flat Rock, NC. She was a woman of grace and beauty which endured throughout her lifetime. She spent much of her working years as a selfless loving mother and grandmother to survivors; a daughter, Janet Cathey of Greer, South Carolina; a son, Thomas Cathey and his wife, Jana, of Ada Michigan and a grandson, Scott Cathey of Ada, Michigan. A memorial service will be held to honor Stella's life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Hendersonville, where she was a member, 1735 5th Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
