Stella Owens

Canton – Estella “Stella” Reece Owens, 98, went to be with her Savior on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Haywood Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Stella was a native of Clay County but had lived her whole adult life in Haywood.  She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Eva Dyer Reece.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Vincent Owens, who died in 2008; daughter, Judy Davis; son-in-law, Danny Greene; four sisters, Mildred McFalls, Evelyn Freeman, Edna Chambers, and Ellen Henson; and three brothers, Paul, Algie & Roe Reece.

Stella was a true example of a Christian lady and a faithful member of Riverside Baptist Church where she taught Primary Sunday school for over 20 years.  She was an avid gardener and loved to can and share her bounty with everyone.  Stella made the best fried pies ever.  The whole family enjoyed her tricks and sense of humor.  She was a great Godly example for everyone and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Greene of Canton and Audrey Cooley of Greenville; one sister, Eva Mae Burress (Carroll), of Canton; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Frazier and Reverend Kris Estep officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The care of Mrs. Owens has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
