Stephen James Boyle

Stephen James Boyle, age 81, passed away on May 7, 2024 after a three year battle with prostate cancer.  The son of the late James Boyle and Joan Wagner Boyle, he was born November 4, 1942, in Mendota, Illinois.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Boyle, and his sister, Susan Boyle.

Steve served with honor in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966.  Following his military service, he was employed in the office of the Sun Oil Company in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  In 1973 he became manager and later co-owner of Kakusha Mobile Home Park in Clearwater, Florida.

After retiring, Steve found joy and fulfillment in various hobbies and interests.  He was an avid duck hunter and cribbage player.   A skilled woodworker, he built log cabin bird houses and feeders and showcased his crafts at Haywood’s Historic Farmers Market for over 15 years.

In his personal life, Steve cherished his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Carol Boyle, who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges.  He’s also survived by his loving daughters, Karen Terry (Jim) and Amy Hetreed (Chris), and grandsons Alex and Jim Hyde.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Largo, Florida on Saturday, May 25th, at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Young at Heart”, a local charity dear to Steve, to supplement the many extra needs of elementary schools in Largo.  Their address:  260 Half Moon Lane, Largo, FL  33770.

The care of Mr. Boyle has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
