Stephen Ashley Cox

Stephen Ashley Cox, known affectionately as Steve, peacefully passed away at Mission Hospitals on Friday, April 26, 2024.  He was born on August 26, 1941.  Steve was the beloved son of the late Lewis and Edna Smathers Drye.

In his life journey, Steve was the proud owner and operator of S&S Hunting Supplies for over 20 years. His passion for hunting led him to become a valued member of various clubs including the Tuskasegee Beagle Club, the United Beagle Gundog Federation, and the Turkey Creek Beagle Club.

Steve will be deeply missed by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Sue Carswell Cox of Canton, his loving daughter, Stephanie Wright and her husband, Wes, of Asheville; two sons, Mitch Cox and Nathan Cox of Liberty, North Carolina. Additionally, he leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A Memorial Service to honor and remember the life of Steve will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the Canton Chapel Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ad Hopper officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
