"A Gentle Soul"

July 10, 1959 – February 17, 2019

Waynesville, Steve Dewayne Reece, age 59, entered his Father’s heavenly arms on a beautiful sunny morning, Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, James R. Reece and brother, James Darren Reece, who passed away October 2017; his paternal grandparents, Elbert and Bonnie Reece; and maternal grandparents, Walter W. and Celia J. Massie Russell.

Steve worked at Boyd’s Car Wash for many years before transitioning to the Town of Waynesville’s maintenance department.  While working for the town, Steve made many lifelong friends.  He was selfless, soft spoken and always offered a kind word.  Steve loved the Lord with all his heart, and when you were around him, it showed.  He spent countless hours reading his Bible and looked forward to his Tuesday Bible study group at the Waynesville park.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with friends and brother, Doug.  You could also catch Steve cheering for his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, on Sunday afternoons.

Steve is survived by his mother, Delma Sue Reece Caldwell, of Waynesville; brother Walter Douglas Reece, and wife, Sandra, of Balsam; many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; Steve also leaves behind his two beloved cats, Missy and Marley.

Steve, we will miss you being around the family gatherings.  We will never forget your smile and your humble ways, we love you.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Dean officiating and Billy Litty providing the eulogy.  Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 until service time prior at the funeral home.   Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Hall, Wayne and Josh Crawford, Bill Litty, Jonathan Yates and John Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, 256 Industrial Park Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.
