Steven Ray Whiteside, age 52, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of Alice Whiteside of Candler and the late William R. Whiteside. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Don Whiteside. He was employed with Evergreen Packaging for more than 30 years as crew leader of pulp supply. He was a member of Glady Baptist Church. Steven loved his family and friends, riding his Harley, cooking, and hunting and fishing. He was an energetic fun loving person that had a zest for life. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 14 years Rochelle Whiteside; a son Joshua Ray Whiteside of Florida; a daughter, Alecia Nicole Whiteside of Candler; three sisters, Rebecca Taylor and her husband, Ronnie, of Candler, Sheila Hunter of Candler, and Diane Jenkins and her husband, Bruce, of Kernersville; four brothers, Bill Whiteside and his wife, Jo, of Canton, Jack Whiteside and his wife, Barbara, of Candler, Dennis Whiteside and his wife, Pat, of Decatur, AL, and Roger Whiteside of Candler. He was loved by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Reverend Charles Sprinkle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Steven Whiteside or the residence of his mother, Alice Whiteside.
