Waynesville-Stewart Coggins Stickel, age 83, of 612 Dellwood Road, died on Sunday, April 2, 2006. A native of Flint, Michigan, he was the son of the late Albert and Maybelle Estelle Coggins Stickel. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Willa Campbell Stickel and an infant daughter. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received a BA degree in business with a minor in mathematics from Michigan State University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was employed as a district manager for Allis Chalmers Heavy Equipment Company for 30 years, and in 1992, he went to work for the federal government in the Census Bureau until his death. He was a current member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and was a previous member of St. Agnes Episcopal Church for 20 years, serving as a junior and senior warden and member of the vestry several times. He formed the Brotherhood of St. Andrew Chapter at the Agnes Church in Franklin, NC and was a regular contributor to the St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota. He was a lifetime member of the Order of Free Masons and also a member of the Smithsonian Institute. He volunteered at the Macon County Literacy Program. He is survived by one daughter, Heidi S. Hubbard, of Waynesville; two grandsons, Brendan Timothy Stewart Hubbard and Devon Cody Hubbard; two granddaughters, Lindsay Jean Evans and her husband, Danny Dean Slieght, and Angela Dawn Evans, both of Franklin; one great granddaughter, Ayana Rosa Evans; and several cousins from Michigan. Memorial services will be held in Macon County and in Michigan at a later date.
