Susan Wines Bumgarner, 70, went home to her Lord and Savior on March 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Susan left this world leaving behind a legacy rich in love, kindness, and dedication.
She is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, William Wesley Warren and Lillian Moore Warren, her first husband of 25 years, Robert "Junior" Wines, who passed away in 2003, and her brother, Edward Lee Warren.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Susan's life was filled with unwavering commitment to her family and her faith. She spent 18 cherished years with her beloved husband, Alvin C. Bumgarner. Her family was her pride and joy, and she is survived by her sons, Nathan Wines and his wife Heather, and Justin Wines. Additionally, Susan welcomed her bonus children, Nick Bumgarner and his wife Miranda, and Jamie Burris and her husband Jason into her heart. As a proud grandmother, she found immense delight in her grandchildren, Justin Reid and Linkin Burris, nurturing them with her gentle spirit and wisdom.
Susan's kind and caring nature touched all who knew her. She was known for her down-to-earth personality and the vibrant love she shared, not only with her family but also with a wide circle of friends and fellow church members. As a lifetime member and long-term pianist of Ridgeway Baptist Church, she served her community with grace and dedication, inspiring many with her faith and musical talents. Her passion for flower gardening brought beauty to her home, she especially enjoyed watching the birds, taking in the wonders of Western North Carolina’s landscape.
In addition to her nurturing ways, Susan had a creative spirit that expressed itself through hobbies such as cross-stitching, quilting, and playing the piano. She brought joy to family gatherings and cherished outings with her girlfriends, creating memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Susan's proudest accomplishments include her remarkable resilience as a survivor of ovarian cancer for eleven years, a testament to her strength and tenacity in the face of adversity. In her later years, she continued to inspire those around her with her enduring faith and love.
Her family invites those who knew and loved Susan to join them in celebrating her life. Visitation will be held on March 9, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler, NC, followed by a Funeral Service at 3 pm with Pastor Mike Leslie officiating. A Graveside Service to follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery.
Susan Wines Bumgarner will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those who were blessed to call her family and friend.
The care of Susan Wines Bumgarner has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton, NC.
