Susie Jean Bramlett Crisp, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital. She was born April 29, 1923, in Haywood County, to the late Martin Vaughn Bramlett, Sr. and Annie Best Bramlett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Cromer Lee Crisp, Sr.; a granddaughter, Christy Leigh Grogan; two sisters, Bobbie Fulbright and Billie Medford; and a brother, Martin Vaughn Bramlett, Jr. She graduated from Canton High School in 1940 and enjoyed planning their class reunions. She graduated from Cecil's Business College and worked at Champion Paper in the main office. She was a homemaker for several years while her children were young. Susie worked at K-Mart in Asheville, Martin Electric in Waynesville, and retired from Powell Lumber Company in Canton. She was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club in Haywood County and was known for her cake decorations and crafts. Susie was a lifelong member of West Canton Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir until the age of 86. She taught Sunday school and served as assistant treasurer, Bible school director and was a member of the Pastor Search Committee. In 2003, she was awarded a plaque in appreciation for 62 years of dedicated service to the Lord and to West Canton Baptist Church. Susie was a member of the Augustine Washington 11 Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed reading, crafts, and nurturing flowers and plants. Susie was a breast cancer survivor who participated in the local Relay for Life. She was a godly woman who loved her family, church, and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Ames of the home and Jennifer Grogan and her husband, Larry, of Clyde; one son, Cromer Lee Crisp, Jr. and his partner, Tony Porter, of Asheville; four grandchildren, Leslie Cline and her husband, Lee, of Connelly Springs, Daniel Mosteller and Tamam Newman of Asheville, Cara Grogan of South Carolina, and Corrie Coats and her husband, Chris, of Clyde; six great-grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Cline, Hayden, Emmett, and Cromer Coats, and Sloan Newman; two sisters, Norma Tyson and Anne Mathews of Canton; and one brother, Chris Bramlett of Albemarle. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend George Holley, Reverend Wallace Britt and Reverend W. O. "Bill" Henson officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence of 102 Dewey Avenue in Canton.
