Susie O'Neil

Canton-Susie Etta Hooper O'Neil- age 81, of 228 Sharp Mountain Road, went to her eternal rest on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at her home.

She was a native of Jackson County and had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Richard Edgar and Mary Ann Frizzell Hooper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tallie O'Neil in February of this year. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and Candler Hooper and two sisters, Hazel Mackey and Effie Jones. She served as a caregiver and cook for Pigeon Valley Rest Home and McCracken Rest Home and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church in the Cruso community. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her family.

She is survived by three sons, Dale O'Neil and his wife Jan, David O'Neil and his wife Theresa and Floyd O'Neil, all of Canton, three sisters, Ann O'Neil and Selma Howell, both of Canton and Betty Plemmons of Clyde, 6 grandchildren, Tracy, Kevin, Jarrett and Bryan O'Neil, Nikki Barnwell and Tonya Finney, 7 great-grandchildren, Cody and Casey Barnwell, Dillon, Kassi, Andrew and Crissy O'Neil and Colin Finney and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Matt Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be Tracy, Kevin, Jarrett and Bryan O'Neil, Steven Finney and Billy O'Neil. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Jones, Jerry Rhinehart, Roy Henson, Wayne Howell, Randy Pope, Dwight Trull, Raymond O'Neil and Dewayne Scruggs.
