Ted Inman, Sr.

Ted Darrell Inman, Sr., age 69, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Willis Ted and Donnie Warren Inman. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Ted Inman, who died in 2004. He was a self-employed grading contractor for over 40 years. During his life, he had numerous grading jobs including breaking ground for Haywood Community College, Haywood County Fairgrounds, and Lake Logan-Cecil Fire Department. Ted Darrell was a member and former deacon of Riverside Baptist Church. He was a founding board member and volunteer fireman/first responder for the Lake Logan-Cecil Fire Department. Ted Darrell was a pillar in his community who always stood up for the community and people's rights. His family reflected that his "bark was worse than his bite" and he was always willing to help his fellowman any way he could. Ted related many times that "materialistic things were not wealth, but family, friends, and neighbors were". In times of fellowship and fun, Ted Darrell proclaimed that "he owned two banks …..the river bank and the road bank". He was also a strong believer in education. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Byrd Inman; a son, Ted Darrell Inman, Jr., and his wife, Audrey, of Canton; a daughter, Cindy Inman Phillips and her husband, Jeff, of Canton, three sisters, Gail Parks of Saint Mary's, GA, Phyllis Barnett and her husband, Bob, of Madeira Beach, FL, and Cheryl Haney and her husband, Harry, of Bryson City; and five grandchildren, Kayla Ann Inman, Donnie Warren Mattingly, Thomas Byrd Mattingly, Julia Marie Phillips, and Daniel Curtis Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Riverside Baptist Church with the Reverend Johnny Foster and Reverend Ed Lowder officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by Charles Cathey. Burial will follow at Inman Chapel Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends at 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Baptist Church.
