Dock Ted Whitted, Jr., age 84, died on Sunday, September 18, 2011, at MedWest - Haywood. A United States Air Force veteran serving in World War II, Ted was the son of the late Dock Ted Whitted, Sr. and Sue Williamson Whitted. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jo Elmore and a brother-in-law, Charlie Elmore. He retired in 1988 from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Canton First Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon and co-chaired "Restore The Vision" total church renovation. An avid football fan, Ted played in the very first Gator Bowl game when he was at Wake Forest. Ted was an Eagle Scout, who enjoyed camping and traveling with friends and family. His last big trip was with Honor Air to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, whom he married on December 31, 1948, Mildred Nix Whitted; two sons, Mike Whitted and his wife, Jan, of Marietta, GA and Paul Whitted and his wife, Vera, of Maggie Valley; six grandchildren, Chris Whitted, Ashleigh Pierce and her husband, Brit, Wes Whitted and his fiancée, Carrie Buckner, Shannon Burch and her husband, Patrick, and Pamela and Luke Penny; two great-grandchildren, Braden and Ansley Pierce; and a niece, Martha Elmore of Greensboro. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Canton First Baptist Church with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
