Terry Harris

Terry Eugene "Basket" Harris, age 58, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert and Mable Cogburn Harris. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and William Harris. He retired from Blue Ridge Paper Manufacturing and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Terry was a great man who had a special love for all things sports. He also loved the outdoors, going hunting with his friends and horseback riding. Terry was a fantastic coach, teaching many children to play softball, baseball, basketball and football. He had a strong love for his family and friends who will miss him dearly. He is survived by a daughter, Katie Harris of Canton; a son Dillon Harris of Canton; a stepson, Scott Anderson and his wife, Erin of Greenville, South Carolina; a sister, Betty Rogers of Waynesville; a brother, Joe Harris of Canton, three step grandchildren, Sydney, Leila, and Margaret Scott; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
