Thelma Cucumber

Thelma Minnie Cucumber, age 46, died Friday, September 7, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Mason and Diane Cucumber. Thelma was an accomplished Cherokee artisan. She made dream catchers and various craft designs including bead working that was passed down through her family. Her designs received many awards and honors at the Mountain State Fair in recent years. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanie Cucumber and Crystal Parham both of Leicester; a son, Jackie Cucumber of Leicester; three sisters, Mary Cole and Frances Cucumber of Leicester, and Reva Brown and her husband, Don, of West Asheville; three brothers, Mason and Toby Cucumber of Leicester and Tony Cucumber of Arden; and three grandchildren, Jimmie, Christian, and Zoie Parham. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Cucumber Family Cemetery in Cherokee with the Reverend Bo Parris and Reverend Nicholas Hyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
