Theodore Clifford DeLozier, Jr., known affectionately as Ted, passed away on January 2, 2025, at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Born on April 17, 1944, in Tarboro City, North Carolina, Ted's life was marked by his dedication to both his profession and his family.
Ted had a fulfilling career and was highly regarded for his work. He retired after several years with Duke Energy, where he served as an electrician. His technical skills and commitment to his work were a testament to his strong work ethic.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ted served his country with honor in the United States Navy as a submarine missile technician. His military service profoundly shaped his character and instilled in him a lasting sense of duty.
Ted was a devoted member of The Orchard Church, where he found a sense of community and fulfillment through his faith. He cherished the connections he made there, as he did with his family.
He is survived by his loving family, which includes one daughter, Paula Mathis; one son, Matthew DeLozier (April); and two sisters, Ferdie Barge (John) and Betty Jordan. Ted's legacy is further carried on by his seven grandchildren: Amanda Sims, Lori Mathis, Jonathan DeLozier (Sydney), Ethan DeLozier (Kourtney), Javan DeLozier, Savannah Smith, Jacey Mallory (Logan), as well as six great-grandchildren who brought joy to his later years.
Ted was preceded in death by several beloved family members who will be waiting to greet him in eternity: his father, Theodore Clifford DeLozier, Sr.; mother, Pauline "Polly" Andrews DeLozier; devoted wife, Peggy DeLozier, who passed away in 2014; his son-in-law, Clinton Mathis; and his brother-in-law, Charles Jordan.
Visitation will be held on January 5, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Wells Funeral Home located at 296 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC, 28786. A graveside service will take place on January 6, 2025, at 1 PM at Green Hill Cemetery, located at 161 Veterans Cir, Waynesville, NC, 28786.
