Theron Oates, Jr.

Canton - Theron Wayne Oates, Jr., 50, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of Theron Wayne Oates, Sr. and the late Judith Diane McFalls Oates, who passed away in 2011. Theron was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, loved Jesus and loved reading his Bible. He was a dirt race fan and loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.

In addition to his father and step-mother, Sue Oates, he is survived by his wife, of 26 years, Julie Oates; two sons, John Oates and wife, Rebecca, and Carson Oates all of Canton; one brother, Scott Oates and his wife, Jennifer, of Canton; and three grandchildren, Hunter, Nevaeh, and Natalie Oates.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
