Waynesville-Thomas G. "Tommy" Boyd, Jr., age 74, of Secret Hollow Lane, died on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Thomas Grady and Cornelia Bell Boyd and was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Reese Boyd, who died in 1997 and a sister, Barbara Burgin. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and served as a Corporal. He was former owner of Richland Supply Company, Boyd Motor Company, Boyds Drive-in, and president of Waynesville Properties, LLC. He enjoyed golf, horses, and traveling. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, the Waynesville Golf Club, and a former member of the Waynesville Lions Club. He is survived by one daughter, Julia B. Freeman and her husband, Tim, of Waynesville; two sons, Reese Boyd and his wife, Patty, and Mark Boyd and his wife, Melissa, all of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Erin Elisabeth Boyd, Brittany Alexandra Boyd, Taylor Madison Boyd, and Asher Thomas Boyd; niece and nephew, Sally Burgin Hollifield, and Kitty Burgin Eaker, and Boyd Erwin Burgin; and a special friend, Laura Mae Ray. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Patrick Womack officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill and Jim Ray, Tony Davis, Ron Breese, Sonny Prevost, and Charlie Womack. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Bynum, J.R. Caldwell, C.C. Kimbrell, Clyde Green, Joe Cline, Charles Ammons, Bob O'Keefe, Phil Medford, Bob Breese, and Bill Short. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
