Thomas Craig Campbell, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Savannah, GA, he was a son of the late James Carl and Estella Lucretia Ensley Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence M. Brooks Campbell, who died in 1989; one brother, Carl Campbell; and one sister, Reba Worley. Craig retired from Champion International with 42 years of service and also worked at the Waynesville Country Club. He was a past member of the Canton Lions Club. He spent much of his time volunteering at Haywood Regional Medical Center, Silver Bluff, the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and Meals on Wheels as well as being an active member at Canton Central United Methodist Church. During the Christmas season, Craig volunteered with Champion Paper Mills Christmas Basket Program. Most importantly, he was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. Craig was a United States Army veteran of World War II stationed in Alaska. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Stamey of Longwood, Fl and Elizabeth Craig Olson and her husband, Don, of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Olson, and Eric Stamey; and two great-grandchildren, Rory Stamey and Sasha Kasembeg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend David Christy officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
