Waynesville, Thomas Lee "Tommy" Lentz, age 84, died Saturday, February 09, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Rowan County and lived in Durham before moving to Haywood County in 1954. He was the son of the late Thomas Lee and Emma Eller Lentz, Sr. He retired in 1985 from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles as a Drivers License Examiner after 32 years. Tommy was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was also past president of Clyde Lions Club and a past member of Haywood County Rescue Squad and enjoyed reading. He served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Edna Best Lentz; two daughters, Teresa Jones and her husband, Mac, of Waynesville and Judy Hardin and her husband, Chris, of Canton; two sons, Tim Lentz and Michael Lentz of Waynesville; a sister, Alice Hill and her husband, Norman, of Chapel Hill; a grandson, Blake Jones and several nieces, nephews and cousins including Jim Wood of Granite Quarry, NC. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Chester Sorrells, Ray McElroy, Roger Ferguson, Will Morrow, Steve Davis and Larry Inman. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike and Butch Franklin, Chuck and Steve Wyatt and the Adult Men's Sunday School class. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at 435 Farley Street.
