Waynesville-Thomas H. Mellis, age 53, of Harmony Hill Lane, died on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Tom was born in Billings, MT and was the son of the late William Thomas and Anna Elizabeth Murr Mellis. He was employed as property manager at the home of Mrs. Catherine R. Beaty of Waynesville and the late Dr. Jack "Doc" Beaty. His abilities as a "jack-of-all-trades," along with his helpful spirit, made Tom a member of their family. He enjoyed woodworking and crafting wooden bowls and was an avid animal lover. He also was a dog trainer with Creature Comforts of Waynesville and was a former board member of Haywood Animal Welfare Association. He is survived by a sister, Sally A. Mellis of Seattle, WA and special friends, Diane Giermek, Ronnie McKay, and Catherine R. Beaty, all of Waynesville, and his three dogs, Lucy, Gracie, and Doc. A "Celebration of Tom's Life" will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the home of Mrs. Catherine R. Beaty, 650 Harmony Hill Lane, Waynesville.
