Waynesville, Thomas Junior Phillips, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James "Jim" Hugh and Margaret Phillips. He is also preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Phillips and four brothers, Jimbo, Claude, Rowe, and Arden Phillips. Thomas was a farmer and truck driver who enjoyed coon hunting and being in the outdoors. He is survived by six sons, Hugh Phillips and his wife, Shirley, Charles Robert "Hoss" Phillips, Wiley Phillips, Clyde Phillips, and Robert Conard, all of Waynesville and Doyle Phillips of the Fines Creek Community; four daughters, Elizabeth Conard and her companion James Rhinehart of Waynesville, Sandra James and her husband, Doug, of Clyde, Juanita Ledford and her husband, Fred, of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Tammy Clark and her husband, Randy, of the Fines Creek Community; three brothers, Charles, Glenn "Red", and Frank Phillips, all of Waynesville; 12 grandchildren, Daniel, Alina, Dominique, Dewayne, Bryan, Cody, Daniel, John, Rachel, Anita, Jacob, and Carlee; and seven great grandchildren, Emily, Nevaeh, Americus, Xavier, Breanna, Zachary, and Blakely; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Fines Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Teddy and Shane Rose, Larry Phillips, Donnie Byrd, Robert Conard, and Chris Eddison. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to services at the funeral home.
