Thomas Hugh Rogers, Jr., age 92, of 120 Pleasant Hill Road died Monday, May 22, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late, Thomas Hugh Rogers, Sr. and Gertrude McCracken Rogers. He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Rogers; two brothers, Wayne and Max Rogers; and a sister, Iris Luther. He was owner and operator of Rogers Electric, Rogers Tractor and Rogers Realty of Clyde. Mr. Rogers was a member of First Baptist Church of Clyde where he was a former Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He was past president of Haywood Electric Membership Corporation, former president of Haywood County Farm Bureau Association, former member of Haywood Community College Board of Trustees, and former member of Haywood County School Board where he served for 12 years. Mr. Rogers was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow. He was a mason and member of Clyde Masonic Lodge AF&AM #259. Mr. Rogers was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Sarah Woody Rogers, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Singleton and husband, Dean, of Clyde; a son, Floyd T. Rogers and wife, Susan, of Clyde; seven grandchildren, Tommy Rogers and wife, Kelley, Chris Singleton and wife, Tracie, Kimber Nelson and husband, Bryce, Allison Boone and husband, Jeremy, Julie Prestwood and husband, Brandon, Rob Rogers and wife, Samantha, and Todd Bennett and wife, Sharon; and seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alex Boone, Jacob and Brysen Nelson, Hunter Rogers, Madison Rogers, and Haley Singleton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at First Baptist Church of Clyde with the Reverend Dr. James Langford officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Clyde, 227 Main Street, Clyde, NC 28721.
