"UT Football Player" Canton - Thomas Wayne Williams, 74, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, after a short stay at Silver Bluff in his hometown of Canton, NC. He graduated from Canton High School in 1959 and earned a 4-year football scholarship to the University of Tennessee, playing in those days both offense and defense under head coach Bowden Wyatt. He won the Most Outstanding Lineman trophy in 1962. Having spent his career as a manufacturer's representative in the heavy-equipment construction industry, he retired in 2006 from Kawasaki in Atlanta, GA. Tom is survived by his daughter, Marnie Leigh King (Todd), granddaughters, Aynya and Zofie, Alpharetta, GA; son, Brandon Wayne Williams, Peachtree Corners, GA; brother, James E. Hardin, Sr. (Carolyn), Durham, NC; sister, Jean Robinson (Dan), Cullowhee, NC; nieces, nephews, cousins, and close dear friends. Per his wishes, there will not be a service.
