Thomasine Nelson

Waynesville, Thomasine Nelson, age 73, of Hall Top Road, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 at her residence. She was a native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Luchius and Molly Massie Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mattie Fuller and four brothers, Herbert, Bud, Joe and Melvin Nelson. She worked at Stovall's of Waynesville for many years and later worked as a housekeeper at The Lodge. Thomasine was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed shopping, gardening and her dog, Annie. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including, Johnny Nelson and his wife Katie of Waynesville and Judy Nelson York and her husband Layne of Fletcher and several great nieces and nephews including Johnny Nelson, Jr. of Clyde, Jill Mann and her husband Steve of Canton and Sherry Spurlin and her husband Chris of Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 in the chapel of Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Nelson, Sr., Johnny Nelson, Jr., Steve Mann, Chris Spurlin and Layne York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786.
