Tilda Ackerknecht

August 15, 1918 — July 16, 2003

Canton-Tilda M. Newman Ballard Ackerknecht, age 84 died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.

She was a native of Tryon but had lived in Haywood County for one month. She was a daughter of the late John Raymond and Orpha Winstead Newman. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Arthur Ballard who died in 1982 and her 2nd husband Walter Ackerknecht who died in 1960. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jack Ballard who died in 1999 and Edwin Ackerknecht who died in 2000, one sister Viola Newman Robertson who died in 1993. She was of the Southern Baptist faith and was in the Loyal Order of the Moose Auxiliary in Charlotte, NC.

She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Helen and Robert Bumgardner of Canton, two sisters, Sina Newman Few and Lucille Newman Sheehan both of Greenville, SC, 4 grandchildren; Paul Vincent, Deborah Williamson-Hyder, Chanta Cox and Edwin Ackerknecht II, 2 great-grandchildren; Cheyenne Vincent and Eric Ackerknecht.

No services are planned. Burial will be at Morgan Chapel Baptist Church in Landrum, South Carolina at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
