Bethel – Pastor Timothy Marcell “T. M." Gibson, a beloved Pastor in Haywood County, peacefully passed away at his residence.
He was born on July 23, 1930, in Haywood County and was the son of the late F. A. and Bernice Rogers Gibson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mitzi Gibson Robinson; two brothers; and two sisters.
T. M. dedicated 33 years of his life to the ministry, serving various churches and playing a crucial role in establishing several of them. Known affectionately as Pastor T. M., he touched the lives of many with his compassionate spirit and unwavering faith.
In keeping with T. M.'s lifelong love for fishing the mountains, it was his wish to share with everyone a verse that he considered words to live by:
"And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men." Mark 1:17
He was a 1949 graduate of Bethel High School. Apart from his remarkable service in the ministry, T. M. also had a distinguished career at Champion International where he worked as a millwright for 33 years before retiring. He was not only a dedicated professional but also a proud veteran who served in the United States Army.
T. M. will be remembered for his kind heart, wisdom, and commitment to his community. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. His passing on February 21, 2024, has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Patricia "Patty" Taylor Gibson; his son, Steve Gibson (Karen) of Canton, son-in-law Joe Robinson of Canton; three grandchildren, Josh Robinson (Monica), Ryan Gibson (Carla), Laura Moody (Tyler); and five great-grandchildren, Madison, Kenzie, Gracie, Ava, and Knox.
A Memorial Service to honor T. M. 's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Crestview Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan Page and Reverend Rick Gibson officiating. Military honors will follow conducted by the United States Army. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
His dedication to his faith and community will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
T. M. Gibson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy of love and service lives on in all whose lives he touched.
