Waynesville, Tommie Lura Conard, age 87, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at The Homestead Hospice Center in Clyde. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she had resided in the White Oak Community. For the past 3 years, she resided in Waynesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Ada Rowland Ellison and was also preceded in death by her husband Baxter in 1985 and an infant daughter, Regina Ann Conard in 1962. Tommie was a homemaker but had worked nine years at the North Carolina Welcome Center on I40. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. Tommie won the hearts of everyone she met in life. She is survived by two sons, Bill Conard and his wife Ruby of Concrete, WA; Larry Conard and his wife Mae of Clyde, NC; one daughter, Carol Phillips and her husband Jack of Waynesville, NC; two sisters, Ellen Roberts and Ann Wilds, both of Marietta, SC; two brothers, Dock Ellison and his wife Shelby Jean of Mayodan, NC; Johnny Ellison and his wife Karen of Granite Falls, NC and 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at White Oak Baptist Church. Reverend Gary Putnam and Reverend Ted Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
