"Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather"
Waynesville, Tommy Brooks, age 81, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County and a longtime resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Roy and Marietta Jones Brooks. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Joyce Patton Brooks. Tommy was passionate about bluegrass music; he was an accomplished musician and vocalist, having spent decades performing and touring with bands including The Mountain Valley Boys and Tall Timber Grass. He was an avid Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan, enjoyed NASCAR racing, and was a devoted fan of Richard Petty. He was a member of Allen's Creek Baptist Church. Above all, he adored his family, friends, and Koda, his beloved dog.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Brooks, of Balsam; a grandson, Dr. Joshua Brooks Corn, of Portland, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
