Tommy David Flynn, a dedicated husband, father, and esteemed carpenter, passed away on December 22, 2024, at the Mission Hospital in Asheville at the age of 84. Born on January 19, 1940, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, Tommy was a respected member of both his profession and community.
Tommy’s career as a house builder and carpenter flourished during his time with M & M Construction and McElrath Construction. His craftsmanship not only contributed to the physical structures of many homes but also left an enduring impression on those who knew his work.
In his personal life, he was known for his love of vegetable gardening, a passion he shared with his wife of 47 years, Brownie Stamey Flynn. Together, they nurtured their garden, shared the products of their labors with neighbors, and treasured the moments spent canning vegetables side by side, demonstrating their generosity and love for community. Tommy was also a remarkable cook, beloved for preparing hearty meals, notably his famous stewed beef, which he made in abundance to share with family and friends. He never relied on recipes, showcasing his intuitive culinary skills with delicious hamburgers and steaks that still evoke fond memories among those lucky enough to enjoy his meals.
Tommy was admired for his willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors, always stepping up to support those in need. He cherished time spent outdoors, enjoying fishing at Fontana Lake with his son-in-law, Randy, and making the most of every opportunity to go deer hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Brownie Stamey Flynn; his daughter, Anita Ann Carver, and son-in-law, Randy, of Candler; his grandson, Jeffrey Travis Carver of Rutherfordton; his sister, Martha Butler of Forest City; and his brothers, Ben Flynn (Betty) of Marion, John Flynn of Forest City, and Alvin Flynn of Forest City.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Lennie Thomas Flynn and Vannie Arrowood Flynn; along with his brothers Vance Flynn and Albert Flynn; and sisters Mary Cash, Willie Mae Flynn, Tinny Shook, and Jeannette Flynn.
In honoring Mr. Flynn's wishes there will be no services held. Instead, he has asked that memorials be made to helping others through The American Heart Association at www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give
The legacy of Tommy David Flynn will be remembered lovingly by all who were touched by his kindness, generosity, and commitment to family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The care of Mr. Flynn has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
