Troy Dee Hill, age 84, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late Clarence and Etta Rhymer Hill. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II having served as a staff sergeant and he received a purple heart with two bronze stars and others. Troy was a member of Canton Free Will Baptist Church and he had a band, called Haywood Ramblers, that played country, blue grass and gospel music. He enjoyed camping with his family. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Daffine Davis Hill; two daughters, Betty Adams and her husband Lee, of Leicester, and Linda Brown and her husband, Keith, of Canton; one son, Ronald Hill and his wife, Sheila, of Canton; two sisters, Marcella Lindsey of Clyde, and Virginia Towe of Candler; one brother, Paul Hill of Clyde; ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mitch Strickland and Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the service. Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to Canton Free Will Baptist Church, 19 Gilbert Street, Canton, NC 28716.
