Clyde, Troy Mathis, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at The Homestead.

Troy was born in Madison County but had lived most of his life in the Fines Creek Community of Haywood County. Troy was the son of the late Daniel and Daisy Edmundson Mathis, and he was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Mathis and a half-brother, Berry Edmundson. Troy was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church where he served as custodian of the church and caretaker of the cemetery. He enjoyed farming, gardening and being a good neighbor.

Troy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Fisher Mathis; a daughter, Cumi Greene (Billy) of Clyde; a son, Wayne Mathis (Lisa) of Canton; three grandsons, Christopher Greene, and Tyler and Drew Mathis; and four great-grandchildren, Baylee, Brinlee and Aubree Mathis and Charlie Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Moore and Reverend Johnny Raines officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
