U. Mason

U.L. Mason, age 87, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native of Macon County, he was a son of the late Frank and Inez McConnell Mason. He was preceded in death by a son, William Douglas Mason; a daughter, Linda Mason Trull, and three brothers, Elbert, Ellis (Tip), and Elmer Mason. U.L. was employed with Champion International for 38 years as a crane operator and was a member of Canton Free Will Baptist Church. He was a loveable husband and enjoyed making a garden which made him known for his large tomatoes. U.L. was loved by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Lankford Mason; one son, Dennis Mason of Canton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Milton Hollifield and Pastor Mitchell Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
