Valerie Mathosian Gandy, 60, passed away on March 28, 2017 in Asheville, NC. She was born to George Mathosian, a WWII veteran, and Margaret Conrad in Amityville, NY on May 18, 1956 in the front seat of a 1939 Studebaker Commander en route to the hospital. She spent her early years in Levitttown and Kings Park, NY and would eventually live in Florida and California before she fell in love with the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. Since 1984, she has resided in Candler with her husband, Charlie Gandy. She raised her two sons, Jason and Luke Reischel, in a house filled with the constant sound of laugher and music (the Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Cat Stevens, and Harry Chapin were among her favorites). She was a loyal friend, a dedicated mother, a devoted wife, and a lover of dogs. She spent nearly half of her professional life dedicated to the service of helping the elderly at the Veterans Hospital.
She was preceded by her parents and her brother, Krikor Mathosian.
She is survived by her husband, her children, her grandchildren Mackenzie and Jaxson Reischel, her sister Denise Steuber, and her brothers Mark and David Mathosian. In the words of one of her favorite bands : "...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." We know that she took a lot of love with her because she freely gave her love to so many. To say she will be missed is an understatement.
