Valerie Mathes

Valerie Clontz Mathes, age 97, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Riley and Eva Henson Clontz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Mathes, who died in 1992; and several brothers and sisters, Maebell Burnette, Ardell Cook, Floye Pope, Hilliard Clontz, Elsie Johnson, Eldon Clontz, Eston Clontz, Roy Clontz, and Ruby Burnette. Valerie was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Worley of Candler, and Doris Jeter Waddell of Asheville; two grandchildren, Eric Jeter and Shanna, of Asheville, and Darren Jeter and his wife, Laurie, of Marshall; and four great-grandchildren, Tylar Walker, Erica, Sydney, and Jordan Jeter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012, at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Reverend Veranita Alvord and the Reverend Claude Surrett officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
