Vanessa Becker

Waynesville, Vanessa Jean Abel Becker, 74, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Memorial Mission Hospital Born in Scott City, Kansas, May 20, 1942, Vanessa was the daughter of the late Colonel (Ret) Stewart W. and Virginia Abel of Roseville, California. She was also preceded in death by a brother Mickey Abel. Vanessa graduated from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, NC in 1960. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville and enjoyed reading, gardening and playing golf. Vanessa married Lt. Ronald C. Becker in 1962 at McGuire AFB, CA. and began a loved-filled marriage of 54 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Eric Becker, and his wife, Cherie, of Fairview, NC; one sister, LuAnn Richardson, of Thomasville, GA; one brother, Gary Abel, of Texas; and one grandson, Ian Charles Becker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. and Reverend Wilson Strickhausen officiating. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Following the burial the family will be receiving family and friends at the Wells Events & Reception Center in Waynesville, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
