Varnel Swanger, Sr.

Loganville, Varnel Robert Swanger, Sr., age 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Scepter Health & Rehabilitation of Snellville, Georgia. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Joseph Mallon and Beatrice Kirkpatrick Swanger. Varnel proudly served his country during WWII and was a 65 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Varnel is survived by his wife of 71 years, Blanche Green Swanger, of Loganville, Georgia, formerly of the Fines Creek Community. He also leaves behind a proud legacy, two sons Loften Swanger (Lynne) and Varnel Swanger (Margaret); six grandchildren, Jennifer Fackenthall, Chantelle Buchanan, Julie Burnett, Shawn, Christopher and Sharon Swanger; nine great grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor Swanger, Jackson and Anna Burnett, Avery Fackenthall, Shawn, Payton, Savannah and Lacey Swanger and one brother Coleman Swanger; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January, 25, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o James Ferguson, 11571 Betsy's Gap Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
