Velda Deweese

Canton - Velda Christopher Deweese, age 92, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Skyland Care Center in Sylva. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Parris and Lora Williams Christopher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Hilton Deweese, Sr. who died in 1976. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jesse Hilton "Hoot" Deweese, Jr.; three brothers, Luther, Ray and Lloyd Christopher. She was a homemaker and member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Jencie D. Owen of Maggie Valley, three sons, Roy Howard "Dugan" and Billy Jack Deweese both of Canton and Bobby Wayne Deweese and his wife, Teresa of Cary, NC; a daughter-in-law, Janie Deweese of Canton, a sister, Gladys "Ginger" Boyle of Hawaii; a sister-in-law, Lassie Christopher of Gastonia; four grandchildren, Vickie B. Chambers of Canton, Derek Blankenship and his wife, Ana of Costa Rica, Jonathan Deweese of Manteo and Katharine Deweese of Cary and four great-grandsons. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2005 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Ed Lowder officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 - 12:30 prior to the services at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home of the daughter, 42 Greenview Drive, Maggie Valley.
